Jamie Gazelle Hails from the Heart of the Midwest . Austin Texas, biggest music live capital in the world. Playing the live venues of Austin is daunting, and these days does not pay a whole lot to musicians. So Jamie is branching out into other avenues and revenue streams with his songs. Now proving that focus and attitude helps to build solid values in songwriting and playing with bands. Starting a music career in the mid west is not easy, especially when you start out in Nebraska in a town of less than 4000 people. Jamie’s first song was about his then girl, and called “Pretty Lady” and it won the girls heart. Next was a song called “Open Window”which is to this day one of his favorites and best songs.
All along the way, it was clear Jamie would one day have a music life. He started penning his own songs when he was just 11 years old. It was one day with a friend that he discovered he had a knack for putting words to music and melodies. He had written about 39 songs before he was out of high school, and had already formed three bands with then neighbors that had talents of their own. After High School, Jamie took a few months off and just waited for some people to come together and form the band “BOSS” big on solid sounds. BOSS played quite a few proms and other club stuff and even opened for a huge band from Texas called “BABY” who had a huge following across the mid-west and regions beyond Boss’s reach. The show that night booked over 3,000 in a large auditorium, the first big gig paid well, and Jamie knew that this could be fun and profitable, this little thing called ROCK N ROLL . After college the songster
thought it time to be moving from the cornfields of the heartlands and get to some real music cities…..like ??? Maryland, well it was close to Washington DC and just maybe would prove to be something for the future of whatever was on the path this musician was taking. First working jobs in record stores like PEACHES and DON”S AT THE MALL, Jamie meets up with Mark Reed and the PHEONIX BAND. They were not the greatest musicians in the world but had a lot of heart and somewhat of a plan and direction, which was soon to be thwarted by the… yep drummer, aint it always the drummer who screws things up and leaves everybody hanging without a groove. Any way the band did come up with a couple nice tunes called “TO BE A STAR, and GIRLS” penned by the bass and guitars Jamie and Gary Denneick. Just around this time the wife starts getting antsy and wants to maybe discover “new people” . New people did
not include anyone Jamie knew of course, and next thing ya know, the wife hauls off to a funeral with her sister and never returns until 2 months later to get her stuff. This is the stuff that makes for great blues”” and Jamie took full advantage of it penning over 100 songs that year.
Now that the blues are in full affect, the songs just keep a coming and there seems to be no end, other than tears and loneliness with all family 3000 miles away. This where things take a serious turn, some good , some bad, but serious stuff happens in the coming months . Being depressed as a musician really sucks and it was time for a hero to enter the picture. God and KIX…. Kix was an up and comer to the rock n roll scenes of Baltimore in the eighties and there was a slot that opened up for a local band to open for them. Jamie got the shot and friends Paul and Mark Buehler were along for the ride. This is where the song “ CHROME RUBBER
DEMON was written and it was about a car built from scratch parts, junker really that would only go in reverse some of the time. A really sexy girl and her friend noticed as the car pulls up to the concert, mufflers blarring on 10 enough to get cops showing up, which they did and a really fun night was in store for everyone who rode in the demon. Forwards, backwards it was a fun time and the song turned out well on tape, like a soundtrack from the CARS band with Ocasick and the boys. Still quite depressed of the wife situations, Jamie gets a call from a Pastor who had just gotten ordained in the Church of God U.S.A. It turned out that this pastor had noticed Jamie at work all down and not smiling , invited him to his home and starts to telling him about the Lord Jesus and all that had been provided to those who chose to believe it.This brought back old memories at church camp when Jamie got saved at 10 years old,so Jamie was quite familiar with Jesus and appreciated the pastor coming and showing the way out of the depressions. Five years or so later the songs “CHROME” and “ JESUS WAS A COWBOY” were done and recorded by a producer Jamie would meet up with in Nashville Tn. Jamie’s songs really start coming together at this point, and sounding really well on tape. Just when things get to rolling, don’t ya know along comes the other guy wanting to thwart the plan of getting this music out to the world. Larry was a jobs hunts provider with a business of finding people work. He actually led Jamie to Kevin the producer upstairs from where the work Co. was located. Larry, instead of helping Jamie get his songs to the right people, decides to offer Jamie a SPOT with his company as an owner of one of his franchises, which turned out to be a scam from hell. Another bad deal which also came thru Larry, was one of a room mates deal and Jamie lost near everything, including his guitars and PA, clothes in one day. This is what can happen when you take your mind off your focus things and Jamie learned an expensive and hard lesson. After being in a few bands and playing for the President on the elipse in Washington, Jamie with head in heart headed back to Nebraska to regroup from the loss of everything. The year 2001 brought on the Alquada boys and the toppling of the tallest American building. Sitting around one night after work he starts to pen what would become the song “Gross world” using music from a friend in Wisconsin, and an instrumental piece called FADED 2.0. David Perry of the band Fear of Water gave the ok to market the song, and it is now in the running to be on the first EP out in 4 years. Jamie will usually find a way to make a song out of every opportunity and scenario, why not, isn’t that what it’s all about, relating to things that make people go wow, I never thought of it like that before. A new thing for songs and movies is coming out this year possibly as one of Jamie’s ideas is taking shape as a full blown app for gaming with tunes. As an accomplished singer and guitarist, Jamie has played on many other artist’s tapes as well as his own. He has also written a book and a play for the screen and live stages as well. If it’s about the entertaining of Americans and worldwide, Jamie is all about it, and you will be hearing his songs on the radio soon. Dream a dream and live it out till it happens, that is Jamie Gazelle’s story and motto. And never let life get you down so you can’t get up, things are sure to change if you just hang on.
